Global Shortage of Blood Bottles

The NHS is currently responding to a global shortage of blood bottles used to collect blood samples. Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been asked to implement measures as part of a national co-ordinated response.

Practices have been asked to review their phlebotomy clinics. All routine blood testing will cease until further notice.

All urgent blood tests will continue to be taken, including those patients taking specific medications which require regular monitoring.

If you have a blood test already booked within the next two weeks, please continue to attend.

If a Hospital Consultant requests that you have a blood test as a result of an appointment, please advise that you will be unable to have this taken at the Surgery.

Thank you for your understanding. We will update you once we know more regarding the global shortage, which I am sure you will appreciate is unfortunately out of our control.
