     Celebrating 30 Years Service

Our Practice Manager, Nicola Gauge, has worked at the Practice for 30 years. We celebrated this achievement with her on the 10th July with present and former colleagues.

We are immensely proud of our Practice and our Practice Manager Nicola. We feel she is one of the unsung hero’s of the NHS, quietly working in the background to ensure that we continue to give the best care that we can to our patients. Nicola joined our practice in 1989 as an office junior and worked hard, quietly with determination and in October 2004 she became our Practice Manager. Since then she has dedicated her life to the Practice. She tirelessly looks after all the GP’s, Staff and Patients. She works calmly and quietly with a smile on her face never giving up on the challenges that face her daily.

All the GP’s feel very lucky to have Nicola as our Practice Manager. She is very well respected throughout the Locality and works closely with the other Practice Managers and the CCG to ensure that our patients get the very best care. She has taken on board all the changes within the NHS and meets them head on. She continues to work with us at Greensands and we are taking this opportunity to acknowledge her hard work and continuing dedication to the Practice. We believe she truly is an Unsung Hero of the NHS.

Retinal Screening – Potton and Gamlingay

Unfortunately, we have been unable to accommodate the Retinal Screening Unit from Bedford Hospital this year.

There were several Health and Safety issues last year, with electric cables being passed through the surgery windows from the van parked outside.  Also, the corner of our roof was damaged when the van reversed into the property, as there is limited parking and space to manoeuvre at the top of the drive at Potton.

Due to increasing patient numbers and demand, we have increased our clinical staffing and as such we do not have any spare administrative rooms in either building now for external services to use for a two week period at both sites.  Some offices at Potton and Gamlingay have been converted into clinical rooms and due to patient confidentiality, we hope that you understand that we cannot have the windows open all day to pass an electrical cable through when consultations are taking place.

We did advise the Unit that there are other local buildings available in Potton and Gamlingay which may be able to help, but unable to comment as to whether they made contact.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Appointments with a GP or Practice Nurse are now available in the evenings and weekends for patients registered at this practice, these are called ‘Extended Access’ appointments. We are working with other practices in Bedfordshire to provide these additional appointments to increase access to healthcare at times that are convenient to patients.

When you call to make an appointment we may offer you an ‘Extended Access’ appointment, this appointment could be held at another practice and with a GP or Practice Nurse from another practice. Our reception team will confirm all of the details at the time of booking and if you are registered to receive text message alerts, you will receive a text message to confirm the date, time and location of your appointment.
