Welcome to Greensands Medical Practice

The doctors and staff welcome you to Greensands Medical Practice. We provide a wide range of general medical services from our two premises in Potton and Gamlingay.

Both sites have easy wheelchair access.

Please explore our website to find out more about us and what we can offer.

You can follow us for GP updates on Twitter & Facebook:

We have been notified by NHSE that the surgery can remain closed on Monday 25th. I'm sure you will all agree that this will give our GPs and staff a very welcome and deserved break. If you require medical assistance during this time please use the out of hours services calling 111 or in a medical emergency 999.

We hope you all have a safe Bank Holiday, and thank you for your continued support.

Phlebotomy Service Bedford Hospital

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the Phlebotomy service at Bedford Hospital South Wing will be closing today at 4.30pm for the foreseeable future.

The Phlebotomy service will ONLY be available at the North Wing site (Kimbolton Road). The opening hours will be Monday to Friday from 8.00am – 16.30pm. The telephone number for the service will be 01234 355122 Ext 3402.

During this period of uncertainty, we understand that you may have concerns.

Due to the current pandemic of Coronavirus, with immediate effect access to medical care at the Practice has changed.

The below is supported by the recommended guidance from NHS England.  Our priority is to keep our patients and GPs and staff safe. Please understand that this guidance is constantly changing.

If you are presenting with a cough or/and fever, please follow NHS England advice and self-isolate for 7 days.

We are trying to prevent anyone coming into either surgery who do not need to be here.  This is for your protection.

If you have been told to stay at home because of coronavirus and you need a note for your employer - please go to

The service is only for people who

  1. have symptoms of coronavirus and have used the 111 online coronavirus service
  2. have been told by a healthcare professional that you have symptoms of coronavirus
  3. live with someone who has symptoms of coronavirus

We have noticed that a number of patients do not have an on-line account, especially those who are on regular medication.  Please contact the surgery so that we can arrange this for you.  We encourage you to use this facility for booking appointments, requesting prescriptions and looking at pathology results. This will minimise your need for face to face contacts at the Surgery.

All pre-booked face to face appointments with GPs are suspended from Tuesday 17th March 2020 and will automatically be converted into telephone consultations.  Until further notice, all future GP appointments have been replaced with telephone consultations.

If you already have a pre-booked appointment, the Doctor will contact you on the day near to your appointment time by telephone.  If following this telephone conversation it is felt that you require a face to face appointment, the Doctor will arrange this with you.

All face to face nursing, health care assistant and midwife appointments which are pre-booked will continue to take place at the surgery at the present time.  It is vital that if you have an appointment at the sugery that you notify the Practice of any symptoms of fever or cough before you attend. We will need to rebook for when you are well.

No appointments will be able to be booked at the reception desks or on-line.  If you have a problem and need to be seen, please phone the surgery instead.

We are arranging a home delivery service for dispensed prescriptions for patients who require assistance.  We will contact all patients in due course.

Please allow ten days for your prescription to be fully processed. Please post all prescription requests through the surgery letterbox.

Please do not over order.  It is important that you only order the medication you require.

We are in the process of setting up an electronic prescription service whereby you can nominate a pharmacy for your prescription to be sent directly.  Further details will follow.

If you have a sample to drop off, please ensure this is in the bag provided and post through the letterboxes.  We will not accept any samples that have not been requested by a Clinician and in an appropriate bag.  They must be labelled with your name and date of birth.

Please understand that we have had to make difficult decisions in light of the unprecedented situation that we find ourselves in.

Patients should only attend the surgery if they have a pre-arranged appointment with one of the Clinical Team or if they have made arrangements to collect dispensed medication.

Thank you for your patience and understanding at this difficult time.

Please help us to help you.

Appointments with a GP or Practice Nurse are now available in the evenings and weekends for patients registered at this practice, these are called ‘Extended Access’ appointments. We are working with other practices in Bedfordshire to provide these additional appointments to increase access to healthcare at times that are convenient to patients.

When you call to make an appointment we may offer you an ‘Extended Access’ appointment, this appointment could be held at another practice and with a GP or Practice Nurse from another practice. Our reception team will confirm all of the details at the time of booking and if you are registered to receive text message alerts, you will receive a text message to confirm the date, time and location of your appointment.
